Supported Child Development Program

The Supported Child Development Program coordinates inclusive child care for children from birth to twelve years of age who require extra supports.

Supported Child Development is based on the philosophy that:

• All families must have access to quality childcare
• Some children require support extra support to participate in childcare settings
• Childcare settings require support to successfully include all children

Supported Child Development is guided by the following principles:

• Inclusion
• Family Centered Philosophy
• Shared Responsibility
• Community-based Service
• Individual Planning

The objectives of Supported Child Development are to provide:

• Community-based support to families and childcare settings
• Equitable access to and participation in childcare
• Support for families to maintain their integrity
• Support for communities to respond to the child care needs of all children

Supported Child Development also provides educational opportunities for childcare providers on a regular basis.
