Since 1967, the Nanaimo Child Development Centre has been helping central island children from birth to 19 years of age and their families. A CARF accredited agency, we are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors with a staff of over 80 dedicated individuals, we operate primarily from our Centre located at 1135 Nelson St. Our services are based on the philosophy that children have the right to quality services which facilitate their optimum development, and that early recognition and prompt intervention can enhance a child's ability. We provide services to over 1700 children and their families annually and have recently received our 10,000th referral! The need for our services is great and we are faced with a waitlist of 245 children, waiting an average of 12 months for some services. We provide direct services to children and their families in seven program areas:
- Early Intervention
- Family Support
- Supported Child Development
- School Age Therapy
- Complex Developmental Behavioural Conditions
- Preschool
- C.A.R.E. Program
No child with special needs should wait for quality services. Our pressing immediate need is to dramatically reduce the waitlist at the Centre by funding therapies and support for children with special needs. In order to do this, we need your help.
