Preschool Philosophy/Program Goals

The Child Development Centre strives to promote a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment that will enhance each child's sense of self-esteem and security. In addition, through a developmentally appropriate progra, a child's emotional, social, physical, intellectual and language development is encouraged at individual levels. The physical environment and program is structured to foster optimal growth and development through exploration, discovery and play. The physical set up of the preschool will provide a variety of sensory motor and real life experiences which will encourage self-selection of play materials, problem solving, peer interactions and opportunities for language development.

Our schedule follows a basic routine throughout the morning or afternoon, so that the children can feel secure knowing what to expect and when to expect it. The daily schedule includes a balance of activies: indoor/outdoor; quiet/active; indiviual/group; child/staff initiated. In addition, our schedule is flexible to accomodate the changing needs and routines of the group or individual child.

  • Free Play: Children choose from various interest centres including puzzles, building blocks, or creative art.
  • Circle Time: A teacher directed time where stories, songs, and games are used to build skills.
  • Snack Time: A social time with peers to talk, share and of course eat!
  • Outside or Gym Playtime: Access to a large playground, covered patio and gym allow for daily gross motor movement.
